Adobe InDesign 2017 New Features
Adobe InDesign 2017 New Features...
To be fair it can't really be said that there are any major overhauls in InDesign 2017 but there have been a some interesting minor enhancements including footnotes and numbered list's. Most of which will be included in the Adobe InDesign Intermediate or Adobe InDesign Advanced Training Courses
Footnotes in Adobe InDesign 2017...
Once footnotes were positioned under columns but this version of InDesign allows footnotes to be positioned so they run across a whole page or multiple columns which cn be applied across all document pages or individual pages in a similiar way to the Span Columns command in previous versions.
Footnote spanning is done by selecting 'Span Footnotes Across Columns' in the Document Footnote Options box.
In current or existing documents from earlier versions footnotes will retain their original position at the bottom of a column and across its width.
InDesign CC 2017 Hyperlink Bug Update...
Never the best piece of software for working with hyperlinks via the Interactive Panel (which was a pain to use at the best of times) in InDesign 2017 Adobe has 'made improvements to the Hyperlink panel'.
InDesign Control Panel Changes...
Control Panel can now be customised and personalised from within the panel itself instead of working through the Options menu by clicking and tweaking the new gear icon on the toolbar.
InDesign CC 2017 Ordinals and Ligatures...
Ordinals can now be applied using the Ordinal property allowing more precise positioning of letters above numbers (Ordinals are alpha /numeric as in 1st, 2nd, 3rd) which in InDesign 2017 now makes it much easier to format dates. Ligatures now have context optons for tighter /looser handling. These are character pairs that join together such as in ff or fi for example.
What are Ligatures?...
Take a look at LIGATURES ARE!
InDesign 2017 OpenType...
OpenType has been included in InDesign for many years but you will notice in this latest version that a new small icon has been added to the bottom of text frames. This lets you work with OpenType options directly in the frame.
